Glitch // No-Input, 100% Analog Heat FX

video upload by Dave Mech

"Two presets + a walkthrough mini-course video showing how this works, are available in my shop here: https://davemech.live/shop

You'll find it under the 'Walkthroughs' section.

Ever since I got the Analog Heat +FX I've been tinkering with using it as a standalone unit to create textures and wild rhythms. It's really capable for that! So here's a first demonstration of using Analog Heat FX completely standalone. Enjoy!"

ANTI GAS Therapy // Syntakt goes Cinematic

video upload by Dave Mech

"I released a course for Syntakt! Get here: https://davemech.live/shop

I couldn't attend Superbooth this year (our son can be born any day now!), so I've been reading and watching all the new releases from a distance. This has caused an overflow of GAS synthtoms (padum tss) of course. So I thought I'd focus some extra attention towards the syntakt to see if I can dive deeper into its sound design capabilities to keep my mind from overthinking new possibilities in other gear. This cinematic piece rolled out. Hope you enjoy this one!

Pattern made completely within Syntakt. Post processing used: A small hint of OTO Boum and OTO BAM and a bit of EQ. If anybody is interested in how and why I apply these, let me know in the comments. I might do a video about this."

RLSD // 100% Syntakt // Offbeat Hypnotic Techno

video upload by Dave Mech

"I released a course for Syntakt! Get here: https://davemech.live/shop

When I sit down with Syntakt most often these hypnotic trips flow out. Syntakt is capable of great textures. Today is freedom day in The Netherlands hence the name of this jam (released). There's an obvious dissonance between this celebration and what goes on elsewhere in the world.

This groove was completely made with Syntakt. Post processing: a slight mid EQ dip, compression, subtle OTO boum comp+saturation."

FLOW STATE MACHINE // Erica Synths Perkons Deep Dive Demo

video upload by Dave Mech

"Get in depth production courses here: https://davemech.live/shop

In this deep dive demo I explore the Erica Synths Perkons HD-01 . This wonderful instrument is really something to behold. It's massive, has big knobs, hands on controls, one knob per function, most accessible sequencer ever and in general just really feels like a true instrument.

Trying to make this more tutorialesque proofed to be difficult as Perkons kept dragging me into a flow state. But I think this demonstration shows you just how much fun this thing is to play with.

Enjoy!"

100% Digitone dub techno jam // Mastering Digitone part 2 groove

video upload by Dave Mech

"In depth course for Digitone ! Get here: https://davemech.live/shop

Ello, here's a new 100% Digitone jam. I created this groove for the Mastering Digitone course part 2. The groove itself you learn to create when following this second part of the course. The performance was recorded for this video. It's a deep dub techno groove made with only the Digitone. It still amazes me how much one can squeeze from this instrument. The little post processing I applied was a low cut eq to tone down the stuff below 30hz and a hint of dynamic EQ to make the mids a bit more forward. The limiter applied is practically doing nothing because I wanted the groove to sound as dynamic as it can be heard directly from the Digitone itself.

Get this track here: https://davemech.bandcamp.com/track/g...

Enjoy!"

Digitakt Machines // OS 1.50 Upgrade

video upload by Elektron

"Machines. The Digitakt way.

As found in Octatrack, Model:Cycles or Syntakt, the concept of Machines has now also reached Digitakt.

There are now several new ways to play back your sweet samples. This new OS 1.50 Upgrade brings four different Machines, all with their own different flavor. Repitch for automatic classic beat-matching, Werp for a little quirky old-school way of time warping, and Slice - to chop up your audio and placing the pieces back in any order you like. And finally Oneshot, your default Machine for playing your sample forward, backward or looped. Again, again, and again.

To top things up we also added a new way to record your samples. You can now set a fixed number of steps for your recording. And, Sample Rate Reduction that can be inserted before or after the filter. Just as gritty as you like it to be.

Go find out more and download this new tasty OS 1.50 Upgrade here: https://bit.ly/3IFttuq"

Digitakt OS 1.50 Upgrade Overview

"As found in Octatrack, Model:Cycles or Syntakt, the concept of Machines has now also reached Digitakt. In this tutorial, we explore the four Machines - Oneshot, Werp, Repitch, and Slice - that come with the OS 1.50 Upgrade.

We also cover some creative tools that allow you to push Digitakt’s sequencer and samples further. For example, using Trigless Trigs to parameter lock values without re-triggering samples, using random locks in Slice to get new rhythmic ideas, or using Werp to really pull apart samples and turn them into completely new elements."

"Another massive update for Digitakt. This time we get 3 new machine types, sample rate reduction, recording length setting and a couple of small yet useful improvements! In this video I go over the major new functions in detail. Enjoy!

PS: After I created this video a small change was made to the OS. On the sampling page the recording length setting is now situated on the right and the AUTO setting shown in this video is renamed to MAX."

Elektron Song Mode: Will it break? // with Digitakt & Digitone

video upload by Dave Mech

"In depth courses for Digitone and Digitakt! Get here: https://davemech.live/shop

Thought I'd try and sort of break song mode creating an IDM-ish break beat. It didn't break (but then it did, didn't it? I'll let myself out).
Anyway, really going to town with it is actually a lot of fun. It's created with Digitakt and Digitone where Digitakt is using song mode with a lot of tempo changes, repeats, quick pattern changes and more. It took some heavy programming and calculations but the result is interesting I think.

Enjoy!"

Introducing Song Mode on Digitakt, Syntakt, Digitone & Digitone Keys

video uploads by Elektron

Update: user videos added below.

"Check your radar, Song Mode has splashed down on planets Digitakt, Syntakt, and Digitone. It’s been a… somewhat generously requested addition to the Digis, and we’re delighted to bring this powerful feature on to those machines. Song Mode lets you create, edit, and play compositions made up of dozens of your patterns. This makes it a hugely useful feature for all kinds of scenarios and for all kinds of artists.

Customize your backing track, leaving your hands free for other awesome gear. Extend beyond the limits of the 64-step sequencer. Create entire set-lists in a single song. And that’s only scratching the surface of Song Mode’s possibilities.

There are plenty of creative tricks to explore in Song Mode as well, ensuring that hitting play is only the beginning of its potential, plus a bunch more features and improvements such as Portamento and global FX/mix on the Syntakt and Keyboard Fold on the Digis. Keep an eye on our channels for the variety of ways that Song Mode can work for you. Find out more about and download this sublime OS Upgrade: https://bit.ly/3E0dC8X"

The New Elektron Song Mode Is Absurd

Song Mode for Digitakt Digitone Syntakt is here!

video upload by Dave Mech

"So they finally did it. They added song mode to the digitakt, digitone and syntakt! I think a lot of people will be very pleased with this. Really cool to see that Elektron keeps updating their line-up with really major updates that keep the instruments alive and relevant yet again for years to come.

In this video I show you how the song mode works and how you can also use it in a creative way. There was also a major update to the firmware of Syntakt adding a lot of great functionality like Portamento, global fx settings, midi mod matrixes and a few other very useful features. Beyond the scope of this video, and the video I did record to showcase those functions was unfortunately ruined. So maybe next time :)

Anyway, enjoy!

Live improvisation with new setup // Erica Synths Perskons // Digitakt // Syntakt // Lemondrop

video upload by Dave Mech

"Here’s an excerpt from one of the first improvisation sessions with a completely new setup that I'm working on. I made the move to fully improvise and it has been a wonderful experience so far. Long way to go still, but it's so much fun so going to keep at it. Have gigs coming up where I'll be using this as well. Scary but exciting :)"

Five 100% Erica Synths PERKONS Techno jams

video upload by Dave Mech

"Here's another video with a couple of jams. I left some of the parts in where you can see i'm experimenting a bit and trying to find where to take things. It's the parts where I landed on something great :). Now a matter of getting a feel for this instrument to more or less do this with eyes closed. I'm just experimenting right now to see how to get energetic grooves out of this thing quickly. To do it quickly will take some time to get the muscle memory in place. And much more to explore sound wise as well. You can really use the LFO in creative ways to take the sound pallet further.

Enjoy!

SUPERBOOTH 2022 - Pink PULSAR23 by SOMA Labs // 2 jams

video upload by Dave Mech

"Ever since it was released I have gravitated towards it and always wanted to try it out. But time passed by and it never happened until now. After about 10 minutes figuring where things were located and how to delete the sequence that was playing I started out and came into a trance. Very intense and beautiful experience. So this is definitely going on the want list.

I only noticed the master drive after I was already deep into the jam. So yeah, it's very crunchy. But I kinda like it :).

Two jams:

Jam 2 1:48"

SUPERBOOTH 2022 - 3 Intriguing Ideas // Motor Synth // Eowave Swarm // Orbita

Eowave Quadrantid Swarm + Metallik Resonator Speaker
Playtronica Orbita
Gamechanger Motor Synth mk2

I spend only a little bit of time with these but I think it was worth it to show some of their capabilities. Enjoy!

SUPERBOOTH 2022 day 1 // Erica Synths Perkons & Syntrx II // Polyend Play

video upload by Dave Mech

"First time attending Superbooth and really loving the vibe so far. Very relaxed. This first day I took it easy and just played with a few things and explored the terrain. Here are the main things I checked out: Erica Synths Perkons (it's like it was created specifically for people lik me) and Syntrx II, and Polyend's newest creation called Play.

I'm just noodling with them but hopefully it will give you some idea of what they are capable of.

PREVIEW: Timetosser - restructure patterns live! (kickstarter)

Dave Mech

"Here's the kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

I only had the time to play with it for a few hours because it's one of the few prototypes currently available, but I already had a lot of fun using it. I would love to experiment more with it in my liveset. Trying different things like using it on a synth track only to restructure melodies from an arpeggiator for instance.
Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with this project. It's a local project from Utrecht that I want to support and I think is a cool idea. It would be great to have around as an additional performance tool. :)"

"Timetosser enables you to playfully reorder any kind of musical input in real-time. The power is at your fingertips to instantly add variety to your tracks and loops. Just connect any audio source and you're good to go!

Soooo it's almost halloween so I thought I'd do a Halloween special on sampling. In this video I torture some pumpkins, record the sounds from that and other creepy sounds, and create a techno track from it with the Elektron Digitakt sampler. I got some help this time from Jasmijn. She has an awesome instagram account: instagram.com/jijifromnl . She makes very cool drawings and she also created the instagram and bandcamp artwork for this video. Many thanks to her for helping out!

Hope you enjoy this video."
